Indigenous Led Drum Circle with Veronica Johnny of Indigened

Monthly Ceremonial Drum Circle

In the spirit of reconciliation and reciprocity, New Pathways is honoured to host Indigenous-led drum circles with Veronica Johnny, Cree ceremonial drum leader, artist, and bridge maker.

Indigenous-led drum circle is a sacred, communal gathering where participants play traditional hand drums and shakers to sing, pray, and share stories.

Led by Knowledge Keepers, it serves as a powerful space for healing, cultural revitalization, and strengthening connections to the Earth, community, and all living things.

Core Cultural Significance

  • The Heartbeat of the Earth: The rhythmic beating of the drum represents the heartbeat of Mother Earth and the Creator, uniting the mind, body, and spirit.

  • The Circle: Sitting in a circle represents balance, equality, and wholeness. It ensures that every participant is equal and connected to the center and to each other.

What to Expect at a Gathering

  • Inclusivity & Sharing: Often open to all nations and skill levels, participants bring their own hand drums, rattles, shakers, or simply their voices.

  • Protocols & Teachings: Circles are guided by cultural leaders. They often begin with an acknowledgment, smudge, or tobacco offering, followed by teachings about drum etiquette and the meaning behind specific songs.

  • Healing & Unity: The music is used to celebrate, pray for strength, and support community wellness

    All are welcome!
