Spiritual Integration Therapy

Compassionate support for meaning-making, healing, and transformation

Psychedelic Integration Therapy mushrooms at new pathways therapy in Toronto

What is Spiritually Informed Integration Therapy?

As more people seek healing at a deeper, more soulful level, therapy is expanding to include spiritual experiences that fall outside conventional psychological frameworks. These experiences—ranging from profound moments of insight to expanded states of consciousness—often emerge through meditation, breathwork, near-death experiences, spontaneous awakenings, or intentional use of psychedelics and plant medicines.

At New Pathways, we offer spiritually informed integration therapy to support you in making sense of these non-ordinary states and grounding them in your everyday life. We understand that spiritual experiences can be joyful and transformative—but they can also be disorienting, isolating, or even frightening without proper support.

A Harm Reduction Approach to Psychedelic and Spiritual Integration

The growing interest in psychedelics for mental health—supported by research from institutions like Johns Hopkins and MAPS—has led many people to explore psychedelic experiences on their own, outside of clinical settings. At New Pathways, we offer a harm reduction approach to psychedelic integration therapy:

  • We do not provide psychedelic substances or experiences.

  • We do provide a safe, nonjudgmental space to explore your experiences—before and after use.

  • We are committed to the wise and responsible integration of psychedelics and plant medicine in the context of personal healing, spiritual growth, and mental well-being.

Some of our therapists are trained in psychedelic-assisted and integration therapy, and some have direct experience supporting clients who use entheogens/psychedelics such as psilocybin, ayahuasca, or MDMA in their personal or ceremonial healing journeys.

“We understand that spiritual experiences can be joyful and transformative—but they can also be disorienting, isolating, or even frightening without proper support.”

Integration Therapy Beyond Psychedelics

Not all spiritual experiences involve psychedelics. We also support clients who have undergone:

  • Intensive meditation or yoga retreats

  • Breathwork or somatic journeys

  • Spontaneous mystical or near-death experiences

  • Heightened synchronicities or states of expanded awareness

  • Spiritual emergencies or dark nights of the soul

These powerful states can catalyze deep healing—but they may also feel overwhelming or difficult to make sense of in day-to-day life. Integration therapy helps you make meaning of your experience, anchor it in the body, and navigate its impact on your relationships, identity, and mental health.

Healing from Harmful Spiritual or Religious Experiences

We also work with individuals who are recovering from spiritual abuse or religious trauma. This may include:

  • Leaving a high-control spiritual group or religious community

  • Rebuilding trust in your own inner authority

  • Navigating the tension between spirituality and skepticism

  • Reclaiming a sense of sacredness in a way that feels authentic

Whether you identify as spiritual-but-not-religious, are rebuilding a new framework for meaning, or are questioning what you once believed—we hold space for your story with respect, curiosity, and care.
