Registered Social Worker

Welcome!

My name is Heather Campbell and I am a Registered Social Worker and dedicated psychotherapist with over 20 years of experience working in a variety of community and health care settings.  I hold a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Toronto and I am a Registered Social Worker with the OCSWSSW.  I work from an Anti-Oppressive lens to empower individuals to break through barriers imposed by racism, poverty, trauma, and mental health issues.

The main focus of my practice has been on the treatment of PTSD, complex and developmental trauma.  I believe individuals have the capacity to heal from trauma when given the right supports.  My approach is to combine a genuine, therapeutic relationship, meeting clients where they are at, with evidence based, therapeutic modalities that are based in a somatic and neuroscience informed approach.

I have completed training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Emotion Freedom Technique (Tapping), Matrix Reimprinting, Neurofeedback, and Internal Family Systems Therapy.

My Background

For over 10 years I have been working with a diverse, inner city population at St. Michael’s Hospital for the Family Health Team. In this role I have developed programs for the recovery of trauma and facilitated a number of groups including Life After Trauma, Emotional Eating, Pain Management, Distress Tolerance, and Health Understanding of Blackness. I am also committed to the education of clinical social workers and have supervised students from the University of Toronto and York University.

In my advocacy work, I have served as a Co-Chair for the Anti-Black Racism and Anti-Indigenous Racism Steering Committee for the Gerstein Centre and the Anti-Black Racism Advisory Committee with St. Michael’s Hospital. As a Social Worker, I am passionate about working to support the community through advocacy from an Anti Oppressive lens. I have also done extensive crisis work in the community, providing consultations with families, community partners and other service providers to promote continuity of care and support for clients trying to remain in the community.

I am a passionate lifelong learner and continue to grow my expertise in neuroscience and somatic therapy approaches. Since joining New Pathways I am expanding my skills to include neurofeedback for the treatment of trauma and discovering how it can be integrated with other therapeutic approaches such as EMDR, Matrix reprocessing and EFT (Tapping).
